Description
Marigold at the Barn, Colored Pencil and Watercolor Pencil on Duralar, by Conni Schaftenaar
A friend took a photo of some marigolds she had planted this year by her barn and sent it to me saying, "maybe you'd like to paint this?" So I decided to render it in colored pencil on Duralar, a translucent sheet, and used activated watercolor pencil to create a soft, abstract background representing some of the leaf fronds of the plant. I will gift it to her for Christmas! Photo used with permission. I define this as a "painting" because color bleeds off all edges.

Dear Conni, you are always so amazing with mixing media, especially the combination of mixing watercolour pencils for soft backgrounds while saving wax coloir pencils for the primary theme details. This is such a STUNNING mixed pencil painting! BRAVA! I loved reading about this in Marsha’s NEW WATERMEDIA thread in the BUZzz !
