A vase of white lilies with speckles of color on the petals stands against a deep blue backdrop. The flowers are captured in great detail, showing the texture of the petals and the pattern of the speckles, contrasting with the softer background.

I laid a piece of fabric lace across the painting and sprayed liquified watercolor over it with a mister bottle to create the impression of a lace tablecloth, the fabric acting as a resist. I used blues and greens and yellows in the soft focus background, deepening the colors around the white petals using negative painting techniques to really make them stand out. I love granulating watercolors, so you can see the effects those provide in areas of the background!
