FAA Artist Conni Schaftenaar Awarded Ad In Haywain Magazine

ZEELAND, MI - Conni Schaftenaar, a Fine Art America Member since 2014, has been awarded a free full-page ad in Haywain Magazine as a result of being the 1st Place winner in the magazine's contest, BOATS OF SUMMER PAINTING AND DRAWING CONTEST. Haywain is a publication of the Art Preservation Institute (see the More Info link).

Her submission to the contest, entitled "Red Sky At Night, Sailor's Delight", is a watercolor on Masa paper, utilizing the unique capabilities of Masa to create batik-like "crackles" and background texture.

Haywain states, "The top artists will be featured on the API website in July and in the special Summer Beaches section of our Summer Edition of Haywain Magazine."

Conni Schaftenaar, Fine Art America Member, has been juried into the 2021 Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts and has received notification of where her two pieces of art will be hung in the Satellite Galleries.

"Apple Blossoms in Spring", will be in Frames Unlimited GR South - 2964 28th St SE, Kentwood, MI 49512. Hours are Monday – Saturday 10-6, Sunday 12-5
"A Lovely Autumn Harvest" will be at Frames Unlimited GR North - 4045 Plainfield Ave NE, GR, MI 49525. Hours are Monday – Saturday 10-6, Sunday closed.
This year’s satellite shows will be up from July 8 through August 15, 2021.

Artist Conni Schaftenaar Receives Award In Juried Competition

ZEELAND, MI - Conni Schaftenaar is pleased to announce that two of her paintings have been juried into the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts for 2021. This year is a virtual exhibit, so the link provided for more info will allow you to see all the juried entries in 2D, 3D, and Illustration categories.

Schaftenaar submitted two paintings, Apple Blossoms in Spring, which is watercolor on Masa paper, done with a faux batik technique; and A Lovely Autumn Harvest, a watercolor painting of green grapes and leaves done on a sheet of gift wrap tissue. The Apple Blossoms in Spring painting has been awarded the LOMA award, a cash prize donated by an individual.

The Art Exhibition is one facet of the annual Festival of the Arts, which also includes performing arts, food and entertainment, and is held the first weekend of June each year in downtown Grand Rapids Michigan.

Zeeland MI Artist Is FAA Tony Award Winner

February 4, 2020 - Zeeland MI. Conni Schaftenaar, FAA member since 2014, is the February 2020 recipient of the Tony Award.

She is a watercolor and alcohol ink artist, and also has created several collage works and 3D works. Her art has been juried in to several regional art shows.

Schaftenaar began painting with watercolors in 2012. Her interest in art has expanded and she often participates in classes, workshops and other learning opportunities. She has taught other people some of the methods she has learned.

She says about the award, "I was stunned when the winner for January, Laurel Adams, contacted me about nominating me to be the February recipient. I treasure the interactions I have on FAA with fellow artists - the encouragement from others continue to drive me to improve both my art and my own artistic outreach to others."

Schaftenaar is now in the process of nominating another FAA artist to be the award recipient for March 2020.
