Description
A city scene in the golden hour, with a bridge over a canal and beautiful sky, Utrecht, Netherlands, by Conni Schaftenaar.
Watercolor class has recently been working on "atmospheric" paintings, so we were painting city streets in the rain, and such like to learn specific techniques. For myself, I chose this street scene (see note below for photo credit) and chose to make it in the early evening time - sun is still out, and that lovely golden light is on everything. This is clearly a photo taken in spring, because trees are just budding, with the lovely gold-green leaf husks showing, and people are out and sitting in the outdoor cafe by the canal.

Photographer did not credit the city, but doing some photo research, I found that this was taken along a canal in Utrecht, The Netherlands.

Thank you so much, Conni. Having lived my first 30 years in the Netherlands, when I saw this painting, I knew right away that this had to be a scene from the city of Utrecht from the spaces next to the water of the 'gracht'. Canals in other cities, Amsterdam, Delft, etc. usually don't have spaces to sit or walk next to the water. It is a charming piece!
