A Peaceful Lake for Kayaking, Watercolor on Paper, by Conni Schaftenaar
Lately my watercolor class has been working on "loose" painting of landscapes and waterscapes. This small study was done with a reference photo taken by our instructor, showing a kayak, a peaceful small lake with some reeds and grasses growing along its edge, near trees, distant trees on the far side of the lake, and rocks in the foreground - I should have made those into a fire ring or something! I struggle with keeping "loose" and when it got to the rocks, the last thing I painted, my nemesis "do all the details" took over, and the rocks are definitely NOT loose! Oh, well - I think I did pretty good keeping the detail demon under control throughout the rest of the painting!
June 26, 2023 - this painting was submitted to my local County Art Trust juried exhibition and was one of 8 paintings purchased by the County!
