Title
Three Pink Tulips Watercolor Batik
Artist
Conni Schaftenaar
Medium
Painting - Watercolor On Ginwashi Rice Paper
Description
Three pink tulips done in watercolor on ginwashi rice paper, batik method, by Conni Schaftenaar.
Tulips were drawn and light color laid down on petals and stems. Then those areas were waxed, and layers of blues and greens (and a touch of pink) were washed into the background, until dark enough. Wax was ironed off and more detail and shading applied to the flowers.
I painted larger version of this to submit to a competition in 2020, which was selected one of the Top 20 - quite an honor!

Thanks, Marsha! I keep the wax on these to a bare minimum compared to what some watercolor batik artists do - I like some of the effect of batik, but mostly I love the look on rice paper! This one had very little wax applied to it.

I love your watercolor batiks. Makes me consider ignoring my allergies long enough to get the wax out! l/f
