Description
When I was a child, my mom, brother and I were fascinated with insects of all sorts, particularly moths and butterflies. Mom was a scientist (chemist by training) and tended to delve deeply into things that interested her. We began an extensive insect collection, finding fantastic examples of the insects that populated our area of West Michigan, and we did some insect hunting when we traveled, too. Mom learned all about how to successfully mount these insects. I still have this moth collection (which includes Polyphemus and Cecropia male and female moths), plus a collection of sulfur butterflies in varying shades of color, that we put together more than 50 years ago. They are still magnificent to look at!
