Description
Triptych of three watercolor paintings of fishes done in blues and blacks, by Conni Schaftenaar.
Several years ago, when working on the Something Fishy painting (also on my gallery), I had printed a reference photo to see goldfish. My inkjet had jammed color guns and only printed the Cyan and Black. The image really struck me, so after finishing the regular "fishy" goldfish painting for the class work, I painted the first one you see here to try to match the reference photo.
For a variety of reasons known only to my OCD brain at the time, I then painted the 2nd one. Once I had two of them, I've had it in the back of my mind for three years to paint a third one and have a triptych. So finally here it is. The third one, with the black background and blue seaweed, is just about dead-on to the printed reference photo in Cyan and Black in terms of colors – I used Pthalo Blue and Payne's Gray on the third one. The others went off in their own directions at the time I was painting them, as paintings can tend to do. They are unruly and will often not mind at all what I had intended for them to be. So now I have my fishy triptych and hopefully my OCD brain can let this one go!
This Triptych is available with a white background on my gallery, as well.
If anyone wants something done with any one of the three in this image, I can upload the individual one(s) on request.

Thanks, Marta - the three paintings did evolved in their own unique ways, didn't they?
