Colorful Dancing Poppies Abstract, Watercolor on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar.
As part of a recent binge of doing watercolor on Yupo (a plastic sheet, rather than a paper), I was originally playing with a fun watercolor in powder form. This particular brand was Brusho, and it's a very fine powder in a small bottle. I had my sheet oriented landscape, and I was doing vertical strips of color with the various Brusho powders, spritzing the Yupo first with water to have droplets spreading and running, then spritzing the Brusho powders and tilting the sheet vertically to encourage runs and drips. I love the textures that the powder created - little cells developed, powder deposits some places - it was just an interesting abstract background in rainbow colors. After turning the sheet around and around, trying to decide what else I might do with it, it seemed that the yellow could be a sunrise and the lower area could be "ground", so I lightly sketched in some poppy blossoms and stems and...
